WELCOME TO PRESIDIO, TEXAS
Good Afternoon Presidio Partners!
Just a reminder that I will be in Presidio next Tuesday, September 26 at 9:00 a.m. to conduct my quarterly training to any individual thinking about starting a business…I’ll be at the Workforce Solutions Office.
Additionally, the Hispanic Chamber is a State HUB Certifier for the State Comptroller’s office and we recently were awarded a grant from the Governor’s office to outreach the State Hub certification to interested businesses. I’ll be bringing applications with me and would be happy to speak to any business owner that is interested in obtaining this valuable certification, either Monday afternoon, or after my Workforce presentation. There is no cost to become HUB certified, and I can process applications in less than 2 weeks!
Here is some information about the State HUB for any interested businesses: State agencies, universities, public hospitals, and municipalities are always looking to work with businesses certified as Historically Underutilized Business (HUB). The goal of this good-faith effort is to actively involve HUBs in the Texas procurement process and ensure they receive a fair share of state business.
Some of the benefits of State Hub Certification include:
- HUB certification is good for up to four years.
- Only certified HUBs are listed in the online Texas HUB Directory.
- State agencies use the HUB Directory to solicit bids from certified HUBs for state purchasing and public works contracts. Prime contractors also use the HUB Directory to identify HUBs for their subcontracting opportunities.
- For purchases of $5,000 or less, state entities can directly contact a business to buy goods and services.
- The Texas HUB Directory is also searched by vendors looking for certified HUBs to include in their subcontracting plans for projects of $100,000 or more.
- HUB Certification provides increased exposure to the general public as well as other entities that have a supplier diversity program, and are searching for minority-owned, woman-owned and service disabled veteran-owned businesses.Who qualifies to be a Historically Underutilized Business?
- a for-profit entity that has not exceeded the small business size standard
- has its principal place of business in Texas,
- is at least 51 percent owned by an Asian Pacific American, Black American, Hispanic American, Native American, American woman and/or Service Disabled Veteran,
- and who’s owners reside in Texas and actively participate in the control, operations and management of the entity’s affairs. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you … and have a great day!
